How the repair comes together

Confirm the load path: We evaluate the beam, joist direction, spans, existing supports, floor movement, and foundation conditions.
Plan bases and spacing: Post locations and bearing are selected around loads, access, utilities, and applicable requirements.
Install and connect: Posts are set plumb on appropriate bases and connected to the supported member.
Adjust carefully: Loads are transferred gradually, with the final goal and limitations documented during the walkthrough.

An adjustable steel post can be a useful component, but it is not automatically a complete solution. The base must distribute load to suitable support, the top must connect to a capable beam, and the post spacing must match what the framing needs.

We look for the reason the floor moved: inadequate original support, settlement, rot, an undersized beam, altered framing, or a combination of conditions. Posts are added only where they solve that diagnosed problem.

Adjustment is controlled. Stabilizing a floor may be the safest goal when aggressive lifting would risk damage to walls, finishes, cabinets, plumbing, or other parts of an older home.

Frequently asked questions

Can adjustable posts level my floor?

They can sometimes recover part of the movement, but the safe amount depends on the framing, age of the settlement, finishes, and utilities. Stabilization is the primary objective.

Can a post sit on a patio block or soil?

A structural post needs a base capable of distributing its load. Loose blocks or thin pads may settle or rotate and should be evaluated before they are relied upon.

Are permanent support posts different from temporary jack posts?

Yes. Permanent installations need appropriate load capacity, corrosion protection, bases, connections, and compliance with the approved repair design.

Do posts fix a rotted beam?

They may provide support, but damaged beam material and connections still need repair. We evaluate posts and wood framing as one system.
